Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures for men and women who want to regain their facial features and aesthetic by framing their hairline, allowing shadows to create a more balanced, healthy, energetic look. It’s a relatively simple procedure, but simple and easy are two different animals. Let’s see why the devil is in the details, and why our artists at Picasso Jeff have clients on waiting lists to enjoy the perfect hairline and youthful, healthy appearance to match your true personality.

What is SMP (Scalp Micro-pigmentation)?

SMP is an acronym for Scalp Micropigmentation, which is a cosmetic procedure similar to tattooing, but instead of regular ink, specific pigments and micro-needles are required for extreme precision and delicate nature of the heads thin skin. The overall goal and effect of the thousands of impressions is to transform our clients face by reshaping it, giving shadows, a more youthful look, and a friendlier, healthier appearance. And like Deon Sanders said “If I look good I feel good, and if I feel good, I play good!”

Does the Pigment or Micro-needle make a difference for SMP?

A bad carpenter blames his tools is an old adage with many truths, but what if Nascar used jet engines or Professional baseball players used Aluminum bats, do you think they would have an advantage? And because we aren’t concerned with breaking records or playing on an even field, we want to use every single advantage we have available to us today, right now using cutting edge technology, partnerships that span the globe, and thousands of hours of the top SMP artists all testing and collaborating to create the absolute best in class pigment system and microneedle. After all, it’s our Hairline at stake! That’s exactly why Picasso Scalp Micropigmentation only uses Sterilized, Vegan and Organic pigments combined with a patented stabilizer name-brand needle system – FYT

It’s patented built-in stabilizer allows artists the ease and flow of creating a flawless, natural looking hairline, from the forehead to the temples, and completely fill in the crown with lighter and darker pigments, creating a natural cascade of shadows, giving a full, pattern-less, natural look – which is exactly what you want.

How Much Does SMP Cost?

Money and Time are important to everyone. Depending on the amount of SMP you need done, it typically ranges from $2,000 – $5000. This is based on the amount of work (difficulty) and number of sessions. When choosing and SMP artist, it’s important to understand their overall body of work, credentials, and do your due diligence to ensure you aren’t overpaying, or worse, underpaying while someone experiments on your scalp!

How Many Sessions Will I need for Scalp Micropigmentation?

For optimal results we recommend multiple sessions. Even after the 1st session you will see an instant improvement, but by the 2nd or 3rd sessions, your hairline, baldspots will be completely filled, look natural, and transform your entire face.

How Long Does SMP Last – Does it Last Forever?

SMP lasts 5-8 years depending on overall skin care and sun exposure. Touch-ups are recommended after a few years because the pigment does not go to the second layer of skin (which is what a permanent tattoo does), therefore it “sheds” over time. Fortunately the follow up procedures are much quicker and less expensive because your initial Scalp Micropigmentation foundation has been set, and because we aren’t Vampires, having to get a few minor updates every 5-8 years means a lifetime of fun memories and feeling your best at all times in between.

Does SMP Look Real and Natural Up Close?

Yes. This is because a skilled SMP artist carefully creates shadows through thousands of impressions using specialized pigments and microneedles. In nature, there is randomness, which is true for all hairlines. While some want the aesthetic/clean look of a perfect hairline, others opt for a more natural look, whereby it’s not perfect straight lines or patterns. This gives the human eye the illusion of a full head of hair with a buzz-cut, which looks extremely clean, natural, and a perfect end result, which looks real and amazing no matter how close or far away you are.

Can I get SMP if I’m Completely Bald?

The Norwood Scale is an objective benchmark of your current hair loss progression. SMP is perfect for client’s of all hair loss levels, and many of our clients are completely bald. A skilled SMP artist will create a “fade” look, which gives the appearance of slightly more hair on top then the sides, creating a more chiseled jaw look, and prominent facial features. Pigments create a buzz-cut shadow effect which can completely cover even the baldest of men or women, or simply recreate lost hairlines, bald spots on the crown, or scars.

Will SMP Look Good if I have Light Hair or Red Hair, Caucasian?

Light Hair After SMP

Yes. Because your SMP artist will choose the exact pigmentation based on your eyebrow color and skintone, the end result is a completely natural looking hairline, even for those with naturally light hair, light eyebrows (or even no eyebrows, and those with red hair or lighter, Caucasian complexions.

Can I get SMP with Long Thin Hair?

Long Hair SMP

Absolutely! Long hair and SMP can work together to create a fuller looking head of hair on your scalp. Whether you need your hairline pushed down to provide a fuller, more youthful appearance, or if your have spots where you are thinner such as the crown or on the sides, Scalp Micropigmentation micro-needles and a skilled artist are very precise and can get into the smallest nooks and crevices of your thin sections, giving you the appearance of a lush head of hair which looks great.

Is SMP Very Painful?

Pain is subjective, but it is similar to receiving a tattoo, without going the extra layer deep. Some clients have fallen asleep during it, while others require a bit more pain relief or breaks during sessions. When you look at your before/after pictures, the little bit of pain endured will be well worth a life-time of not having to wear hats, worry if your hair is in its perfect location at all times, or wonder if you look older to people, but still feel young at heart.
